BREAKING NEWS: Catalans Dragons have completed business for next season with the addition of Australian winger

Manase Kaho - Rugby à XIII - Treize Mondial

Catalans Dragons have closed out their overseas recruitment for the coming season by signing Norths Devils winger Manase Kaho, the French Super League club confirmed on Wednesday. The addition fills the final overseas quota spot in Steve McNamara’s squad and gives the Dragons another potent attacking option as they prepare for a fresh season of domestic and European competition.

Kaho, an explosive outside back who has impressed across three seasons in the Queensland Cup, has penned a two-year deal with the Dragons. The 22-year-old made a name for himself at the Norths Devils with his electric pace, direct running and try-scoring ability — traits that should translate well to the faster, physical style of Super League action. Catalans’ official announcement highlighted Kaho’s athleticism and potential to develop within the club’s high-performance environment.

For Catalans, who have been busy rebuilding and bolstering their roster, this signing is the final piece in a significant overseas recruitment drive. The club has already secured several high-profile additions in recent windows and had been tracking quota spaces carefully to remain compliant with Super League regulations on non-domestic players. With Kaho’s arrival, the Dragons now have their complement of overseas players in place and will shift focus toward integrating the new arrivals into preseason training and the club’s French and English development pathways.

Head coach Steve McNamara — overseeing a squad that mixes experienced internationals and promising young imports — will hope Kaho can provide immediate impact on the flanks. The winger’s ability to finish from limited opportunities, combined with an appetite for defensive work, was underlined by scouts in Australia and reportedly made him an attractive and affordable option for the Dragons’ recruitment team. Catalans’ recruitment statement emphasized both his raw athletic tools and the coaching staff’s belief in their capacity to refine his game for Super League demands.

Supporters will expect Kaho to feature in early friendlies as he adjusts to life in Perpignan and the European game. Historically, Catalans have been adept at blending southern hemisphere imports with homegrown French talent — a formula that delivered a first Super League title in 2018 and continued competitiveness thereafter. How quickly Kaho adapts to larger stadia, different defensive systems and travel demands will likely determine the size of his role in McNamara’s plans.

Financially and strategically, the signing signals Catalans’ intent to remain aggressive in the transfer market while carefully managing quota constraints. For Kaho, the move represents a significant career step: an opportunity to test himself against some of Europe’s best and to further his development under experienced coaches. If his Queensland Cup form is any guide, Catalans fans could soon have a fast, dynamic winger to cheer on at Gilbert Brutus.
