Birmingham City have brought back former assistant manager Mark Kennedy to coach their under-21s.
Ex-Republic of Ireland winger Kennedy, 49, has been appointed manager of Blues’ second string following the departure of Steve Spooner at the end of last season.
Spooner has stepped down after 19 years at the club, most recently leading the under-21s in the Professional Development League.
Kennedy returns for a second stint at Blues having assisted Lee Bowyer during the 2021/22 campaign. Blues finished 20th in the Championship that season and Bowyer was relieved of his duties at the end of it.
Kennedy also exited to take charge of League One side Lincoln City. He led Lincoln for 16 months before being sacked in October 2023.
Swindon Town appointed Kennedy as their manager last summer but he was sacked in October and now returns to coaching in development football.
Kennedy has vast experience working with young footballers and managed Ipswich Town’s under-21s between 2012 and 2016.
He has also held coaching positions in the academies of Manchester City and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

“Throughout my coaching career I have worked with both academy and senior players, and I believe my experience can help further the development of our players as we test ourselves against the best in the country.”
