Amid Growing Fans Pressure, Derby County Open Up On The Position Of Paul Warne’s Future

Derby County have no plans to part ways with Paul Warne amid their poor run of form, BBC Sport Derby has reported.

Derby County enjoyed a pretty solid start to the season upon their return from League One. Some strong home form had DCFC in a decent spot with hopes of kicking on over the rest of the campaign.

However, the past few months have brought some tough form for the Rams. As such, they’re now nervously looking over their shoulder with just one point separating them in 19th and the relegation zone as Cardiff City, Hull City and Portsmouth start to pick up results.

BBC Derby Sport understands Derby County won’t be buckling under pressure to sack head coach Paul Warne, much like last season following defeat at Stevenage.

The form and resulting slide down the Championship table has seen calls for a change in management grow, but it seems the club are holding firm.

Writing on X, BBC Sport Derby states that Derby County will not be buckling under pressure to sack Warne despite the criticism from fans. They plan on standing by the boss and backing him with further additions in the transfer window.

With over half of the transfer window gone, the Rams have made one addition to date.

DCFC completed the permanent signing of Norwegian striker Lars-Jorgen Salvesen last week, who will hopefully add some much-needed goal threat to the attacking ranks.

Earned a chance

There’s no hiding it’s been a dismal run for Derby County. They’ve lost five in a row across all competitions, including a penalty shootout defeat to Leyton Orient in the FA Cup.

Their form over the past few months has arguably warranted a change, and the increasing threat of relegation straight back to League One is also a growing concern.

However, it was Warne who led the Rams back to the Championship and like the club, some sections of the fan base believe he deserves both the time and the backing in the Championship to turn things around.

Warne is familiar with such relegation battles from his time at Rotherham United and could be well-equipped to lead DCFC out of the mire.

The next five fixtures

That said, while Derby County are standing by Warne for now, the upcoming run of games could prove decisive.

Tough tests await, but there’s also winnable games in three. Up next is a midweek clash with Sunderland on home turf before travelling to South Wales to face fellow strugglers Cardiff City.

A tough home game against Sheffield United marks the first game of February and a week later, the Rams head to Carrow Road to face Norwich City.

In five games’ time, DCFC, face former boss Gary Rowett and his in-form Oxford United. Time will tell if the situation has worsened since then, as if it has, a decision over Warne may be needed.
