The nib Newcastle Knights have defeated the Canberra Raiders 18-0 on Sunday afternoon at McDonald Jones Stadium.

After a hard-fought opening half, the Knights ran over the top of the Green Machine in the second half with three unanswered tries.

The victory cements the Knights in the top three on the competition ladder after a wet and wild Magic Round in Newcastle.

The match kicked off in wet and windy conditions for the second last game of Magic Round at McDonald Jones Stadium.

It was a war of attrition in the opening 35 minutes with neither side able to register a point.

The team were working overtime in the opening stages with the match turning into a classic grind.

Yasmin Clydsdale led from the front with 83 run metres in the first half while Tiana Davison was strong in the middle with three tackle breaks and over 70 run metres.

The Knights started fast in the second 35 and were rewarded with the first try of the game.

A beautiful short ball from Jesse Southwell gave space for Shanice Parker to break through the Raiders defence, before finding Sheridan Gallagher in support and the winger made her way to the line.

Soon after, Southwell again turned provider as Tiana Davison posted the red and blue’s second of the game.

Olivia Higgins closed out the game with a trademark try from dummy-half to secure the win for Newcastle.

Southwell had the ball on a string and continued her impressive goal-kicking record with 21 from 21 conversions to start the season.

What’s next:

The NRLW Knights return home next Saturday night for a standalone encounter with the Wests Tigers at McDonald Jones Stadium.
