Abu Kamara Lifts Lid On His Dramatic Deadline Day Hull City Move

Abu Kamara admits the final hours of his protracted move to Hull City from Norwich City were a stressful affair as he waited for the two clubs to agree a deal.

The 21-year-old made his debut on Friday night against Sheffield United, before being taken off at half-time with boss Tim Walter looking to try and get his side back into the game, but his move was one of four the Tigers made on a frantic deadline day.

Talks had been ongoing for a lengthy period of time between the Tigers and Canaries but it wasn’t until deadline day that an agreement was struck, and then it required Norwich to sign Kaide Gordon from Liverpool before they could give the green light.

Kamara had been given permission to travel to London to undergo a medical in preparation for his move to East Yorkshire, and then headed to Leeds where the City squad were staying the night before their Yorkshire derby at Leeds United.

It wasn’t until just before the deadline closed that Kamara was told the deal had been done, and his move to the MKM Stadium was complete. Now, after having time to settle into life at City during the international break, he’s explained what it was like being involved in a dramatic deadline day move.

“It’s been stressful,” Kamara told Hull Live. “It was a risk, but I’m happy with where I am now. Hull City is a big club and I’m happy with my decision. It was a bit hectic, to be honest, because there were a lot of teams that came in for me, but when I heard the interest from Hull was there, I was excited about the project. I felt like the time was right to leave Norwich and when I spoke to the manager, it made my decision a lot easier.”

“At around 12pm, I got told by the sporting director [Ben Knapper] that I could travel up to Hull. I first travelled to London for the medical, that all went well, and then from London I had to drive up to Leeds to meet up with the team.

“I didn’t get confirmation until 10.40pm – I was on the motorway a bit stressed, but I’m happy to be here. In the car, it was dead silent. The music went off. You could just hear the roads. I didn’t know what to think. I was beginning to think ‘have I done this drive for nothing’, but everything went to plan. I was just hoping that they could get a player in so the move could be completed, and in the end, they were able to.”
