Tottenham battling Aston Villa for Vangelis Pavlidis
According to a report in O Jogo (as relayed by Sport Witness), Tottenham are eyeing a move for Benfica striker Vangelis Pavlidis this summer.
The 27-year-old, who is known for his finishing and his ability to drop deep to connect attacks, has ended the campaign with 30 goals and five assists, including the winner against rivals Sporting Lisbon in the Portuguese Super Cup final.
His impressive form has brought him not just to Tottenham’s attention but also to Aston Villa’s, with the two clubs set to battle it out for Pavlidis.
Both AC Milan and AS Roma are also keeping close tabs on the striker ahead of the summer window.
Benfica are willing to sell Pavlidis
O Jogo say that so far, there has been no formal offer for the former AZ Alkmaar man, with the growing interest yet to translate into advanced negotiations.
However, the outlet says that Benfica view this summer as the ideal moment to cash in on the Greek international as they eye a rebuild of their squad.
It is said that the Portuguese giants, who paid €18m (£15.2m) for Pavlidis two years ago, would only sell him for a ‘sizable offer’, but the update does not reveal what their asking price is.
