ESPN’s Tim MacMahon dropped the revelation on the latest episode of The Hoop Collective podcast, noting that Memphis is set to trade its embattled franchise guard this offseason.
“I can say the lottery results will have no impact on the approach moving forward with Ja Morant,” MacMahon said. “They’re going to try to find a home for Ja regardless of where they ended up in the lottery.”
The Grizzlies landed the third overall pick of Sunday’s lottery, securing the selection after a 25-win campaign to end the past regular season with the third-worst record in the Western Conference.
Morant has endured injuries, noise and trade distraction all season, in which the Grizzlies failed to move him.
He only appeared in 20 games this year, averaging 19.5 points and 8.1 assists.
Following the blockbuster Jaren Jackson Jr. trade deadline deal that sent the star big man to the Utah Jazz for a staggering haul that included three first-round picks, the Grizzlies are bound for a rebuild.
