Stoke City were beaten by Preston on Friday night, in a game that has really shone a light on how poor the Potters are under Mark Robins.
Going into Friday night, Preston were one of the worst form teams in the whole EFL, let alone the Championship. There were calls for Paul Heckingbottom to be sacked after a run of four-straight defeats and no wins in seven.
But Preston roundly beat Stoke City. After the game, Robins slammed his players. But there are a lot of unhappy Potters on social media calling Robins to now lose his job.
“It’s not looking food for Stoke City right now. I think they’ll be safe this season, comfortably, but I don’t see the Potters ever really getting into top-six contention under the current regime, and so in that sense I think Robins is only a stop-gap manager.
“It’s strange, too, because he’s experienced and proven at this level and they looked good at the start of the campaign. Injuries at Stoke City haven’t helped, but Robins hasn’t helped himself either, with some of his substitutions and tactical calls in that Preston game leaving a lot of fans confused.
“I think Stoke City need to take the approach of many successful clubs, like Ipswich Town under Kieran McKenna, and hire a younger, hungry coach from an elite background. Who that might be is for the hierarchy to find out. But I think this summer would be a good time to change tack, however harsh it might seem on Robins who hasn’t done a terrible job.
“That said, there are still seven games left this season. Robins could save or lose his job in those seven games. But based off how things are now, I think it would be sensible for Stoke City to make a change this summer, instead of waiting for the next dip in form to do so.”
