SAINTS boss Tonda Eckert sympathised with Tom Fellows after the crossbar denied him his first goal for the club against Oxford United.
Fellow, 22, is yet to score for Saints following his summer arrival from West Brom, but Eckert remains convinced that moment will come.
The former England youth international cracked the crossbar from a few yards out at a tight angle in Saturday’s 2-0 win over Oxford United.
It followed an assist for Cyle Larin on his return to the starting lineup, which marked his third goal involvement since the start of the year.
Eckert was happy with the winger’s showing and is sure Fellows will get his goal if he maintains the level he showed at St Mary’s.
“I was very happy with his performance. In that moment of the miss, I just felt for him. He invests so much, even in that situation,” he said.
“He goes all the way through, and then the ball falls on him. The finish for me is the right one. He needs to go up, but it hits the bottom of the crossbar.
“It’s just like the one against Sheffield Wednesday at home. He’s come very close a couple of times now.
“Sometimes it’s tough to find a reason why the ball doesn’t go in, but if he keeps going like this, I’m sure he will get his moment.”
