Southampton summer signing Léo Scienza believes Tonda Eckert’s side manage to play like Barcelona sometimes.
The 27-year-old signed for the Saints in September following a season with German side FC Heidenheim.
In an interview with.Transfermarkt.at, Scienza was asked if Southampton could still achieve promotion to the Premier League.
He still has hope the south coast club can return to the English top flight despite their current position in the league.
Scienza also believes some performances this season have shown they are capable, but they need to show more consistency.
“I think we can definitely still think about it. We are not where we want to be at the moment. But the league, as I said, is crazy. It has only been played for half of the season. Of course, we have to improve. Sometimes we play like Barcelona, and no one can stop us, when else nothing goes as we imagine. That’s a great contrast. We need continuity and balance to play at the top. It’s hard, but doable. We believe in it and step on the gas, even if it is only possible to do so at one percent,” said the Brazilian.
The player was then asked about his transfer to St Mary’s and whether he’s once again considering a transfer, as he has done for the past few summers.
“I’m very happy here and everyone gives me a good feeling, even if things aren’t going as well as we imagined at the moment. The fans are outstanding and show me a lot of love. I’m not even thinking about leaving,” said the attacker.
Southampton can get promoted
Earlier this month Scienza told the Brazilian media he still has belief Southampton can get promotion. We covered comments made by the winger in which said it’s his ambition to play in the Premier League.
“God willing, everything works out here and we get promoted with the team to the Premier League,” he said. “That would be crazy. It would be the top of my career so far. I hope things keep improving.”
However, with Southampton currently 15th in the Championship table their hopes are fading. They are currently 10 points behind 6th placed Preston North End and look destined for another season in the 2nd tier.
