Bolton Wanderers set to complete signing of 25-year-old Town goalkeeper

As Tyler Miller heads for the exit door, Bolton Wanderers are set to replace him with Fleetwood Town’s David Harrington.

Bolton Wanderers are poised to complete the permanent signing of Fleetwood Town goalkeeper, David Harrington, according to the Irish Independent.

25-year-old David Harrington is set to make the step up to League One, moving from Fleetwood Town to Bolton Wanderers on a permanent basis, according to the Irish Independent.

The Cork native has since switched his allegiance to Wales and after making a squad in May of 2025, believes to step up will help return to the national team. Harrington would join a Bolton Wanderers team who are set to lose goalkeeper Tyler Miller, who looks set to quit BWFC and return home to his native USA.

The 25-year-old shot-stopper has been the number two at Fleetwood Town since joining the club from Cork City in 2023. Despite limited opportunities, Harrington has impressed in his cameos, including earning a clean sheet against League One side Port Vale in the FA Cup.

Whenever the deal for Harrington is announced, it will the second incoming deal for Bolton Wanderers this window. Lewis Temple is the only player through the door whilst, Will Forrester and Victor Adeboyejo have left, and Josh Dacres-Cogley is set to join Stockport County.

Steven Schumacher made it clear he planned to revamp the goalkeeping department in the summer, letting Nathan Baxter and Luke Southwood go in favour of bringing in new blood.

Teddy Sharman-Lowe joined on loan from Chelsea, Miller from Notts County and Nathan Broome from Swansea City. The problem is, Sharman-Lowe has already been dropped this season, Miller, who has started the last two league games, plans to leave and Broome has spent most of the campaign out on loan.

This now leaves Schumacher and Bolton Wanderers without a true number one keeper. Harrington needs to see this move as not only a chance to play at a higher level, but a real moment to seize the starting place at his new club.

Football has been hard to find for 25-year-old Harrington at Fleetwood, but if he can impress early at BWFC, he could find himself starting significant games as the Trotters attempt to get their playoff campaign back on track.

Points needed for Bolton Wanderers

Schumacher’s Bolton Wanderers have fallen off a cliff form wise, losing three of their last five games as they cling onto a play-off spot. To make things worse, they have also only scored twice in those five games.

Whilst BWFC try to find form, their fixtures are getting harder, with a local derby at Wigan Athletic up this weekend.

Following that is a midweek game with Stevenage, the team just below them in the league that could have leapfrogged the Trotters, should they fail to get a result on Saturday.
