Peterborough United To Revisit Deal For 23-year-Old Defender

According to reports on Saturday afternoon, Peterborough United are expected to revisit their deal to sign Bristol Rovers central defender Connor Taylor.

Posh have reportedly been chasing the defender’s signature for a while, as Football League World exclusively revealed back in May that Darren Ferguson was keen to bring Taylor to London Road.

Club director of football Barry Fry later revealed that FLW were bang on the money, as the 23-year-old was ‘one of many centre-backs on our list.’

However, BristolLive revealed that Peterborough’s opening bid for the defender was nowhere near enough to even open negotiations. Since then, Fry has played down the chances of landing Taylor’s signature.

Now, according to fresh reports from Hayters TV, the Cambridgeshire-based side are expected to go back in for their centre-back target, but are facing competition from a number of League One rivals.

Peterborough United to revisit Connor Taylor deal, but face League One competition

It’s been a fairly tough summer so far for the Posh, as key players such as Kwame Poku, Ricky-Jade Jones, and Hector Kyprianou have all departed the club on free transfers.

With that in mind, it’s crucial that Peterborough replace them well this summer, but missing out on vital transfer fees for the three departing players has left supporters concerned about the club’s situation in the forthcoming season.

The defence was a weak link for Ferguson’s side last term, and it was clear that new centre-back options would be needed heading into the summer transfer window.

This saw FLW exclusively reveal in May that the EFL Trophy holders were pursing Bristol Rovers stalwart Taylor, who had suffered relegation to League Two with the Gas last term.

Posh lodged an opening bid, but were reportedly a long way short of Rovers’ valuation. This saw any potential deal for the defender go cold until Saturday afternoon’s update.

According to the latest reports from Hayters TV, Peterborough are expected to revisit a deal for Taylor, but will be facing competition from their League One rivals.

Winning the race for Taylor is important for Peterborough United

Since their escapade into the play-offs in 2024, which ended in the semi-finals, the Posh have been on a downward trajectory in the league, despite back-to-back EFL Trophy triumphs.

So many quality players have departed the club in recent years, but this summer’s mass exodus on free transfers has cost the club huge amounts of money.

Chairman Darragh MacAnthony revealed this in a scathing statement after Jones joined St Pauli, denying the Cambridgeshire club a tribunal fee.

However, winning the race for the highly-sought-after Taylor could be a huge statement of intent for Posh, and remind the rest of League One not to count them out just yet.

Whilst it’s hard to see Peterborough fighting towards the top of the division next season, winning the race for the 23-year-old will come as a much-needed transfer boost for all connected with the club.
