28-year-old defender on Sheffield Wednesday future as contract winds down

Sheffield Wednesday defender Max Lowe is open to staying with the club beyond his expiring contract, according to Joe Crann.

A summer of change awaits at Hillsborough as the Sheffield Wednesday takeover saga rumbles on. Henrik Pedersen will remain in charge but he could be managing a much-changed SWFC group once the summer transfer window has been and one.

If the Owls were to retain his services for League One, he could quickly cement himself as one of the division’s best in his position. Lowe mainly offers his services at left-back but can play on the left of a back three or further forward as wing-back too.

It would be a real commitment to stay with SWFC after relegation. That paired with his strong experience and pedigree could see Lowe emerge as a real leader within Pedersen’s group.

Not only this, but if teammates see someone like Lowe committing, they could be more inclined to stick around for the Owls rebuild as well.

There remains a lot for Sheffield Wednesday to do on the takeover front before a deal can be ratified. Reports have said there is hope SWFC can be under new ownership soon, but fresh speculation over Dejphon Chansiri issues threaten to derail that.

Despite this, David Storch and co are fully committed to getting this purchase over the line.

Once that is done, the stability new ownership and an exit from administration will provide could push some undecided players closer to stays at Hillsborough. Pedersen’s side have given so much this season when the odds have been stacked against them, so there are likely a good few who intend on sticking around for the fight to get Wednesday back to where they belong.
