26-Year-Old Blackburn Rovers Star Shares Fitness Update Ahead Of Portsmouth Clash

Blackburn Rovers summer signing Todd Cantwell has said there is a ‘lot more to come’ from him this season.

Blackburn Rovers landed the attacking midfielder from Rangers in the last transfer window.

Cantwell, 26, has made 11 appearances in all competitions so far for the Championship side and has chipped in with two assists.

He hasn’t been 100% fit though and has said, as per the official club website: “I’m up to speed now with my fitness, definitely, although I’d been struggling with a bit of illness for the last couple of weeks, so I’d not been 100 percent. It’s really important now to kick on and show people the fully fit Todd.

“You can’t really be judged on your output until you’ve had five or six starts. Ask most professionals and they’ll probably say that coming off the bench is very different to starting a game. I’ve got those starts under my belt now and I’m really looking forward to football coming back.”

He added: “I think I’ve been solid, trustworthy and have brought a technical aspect to games, but there’s a lot more to come from me and I’m really looking forward to the games we have coming up. I always play on the edge and like to entertain, that’s the way I’ve always been since I was a kid.

“I’ve probably only hit 70 percent so far, which can be deemed as good or bad, but that’s an honest reflection. I’ve not been overwhelmed by what I’ve done so far, but I also feel quite proud considering where I’ve come from and how I wasn’t training with a first-team before coming here.”

Cantwell was an eye-catching addition for Blackburn Rovers and was brought in to add more quality to their squad.

It has taken him a while to get going but as he edges closer to full fitness, he will want to cause problems to opposition defenders.

The ex-England youth international was handed a three-year deal running until June 2027.

Cantwell rose up through the academy ranks at Norwich City and was a regular for them at various different youth levels.

He went on to play 129 games for their first-team and scored 14 goals, as well as having loan spells away from East Anglia at Fortuna Sittard and AFC Bournemouth.

Rangers signed him in 2022 and he went on to score 14 times in 64 outings during his days in Glasgow.

What now?

Cantwell will be eager to kick on as Blackburn Rovers looks to rise back into the play-offs.

They are 9th and are three points off the top six.
