West Bromwich Albion winger Grady Diangana has received several proposals ahead of his departure on a free transfer.
Albion confirmed last month that Diangana was one of four first-team players leaving at the end of their contracts on June 30, alongside attacking midfielder John Swift, central defender Semi Ajayi and goalkeeper Ted Cann. Of those, Diangana was the most valuable in his prime as West Brom paid £12 million plus add-ons to sign him from West Ham United back in 2020.
There were brief discussions held over keeping Diangana at The Hawthorns for another season or several but talks broke down. The 27-year-old scored four goals and provided three assists in 34 Championship matches during his final season. In total, Diangana contributed 26 goals and 22 assists in 202 appearances for the Baggies.
Three offers tabled for Diangana
Transfer news specialist Fabrizio Romano has revealed Diangana has been approached by three clubs eager to acquire his services for nothing once he becomes a free agent. Saudi Pro League club Al-Ettifaq, where Liverpool and England legend Steven Gerrard was managing until January, are interested and Mallorca are keen.
Then, in what could spark a romantic reunion with former manager Carlos Corberan, Valencia have held preliminary talks over bringing Diangana to eastern Spain. Corberan is hopeful that the five-time Congo international will choose to make the move to the Mestalla Stadium but the competition for his signature his fierce.
Wolves move onto other targets
Despite their rival status, Wolverhampton Wanderers had been keeping tabs on Diangana’s situation as they believed the former West Ham man could help solve the imminent lack of cover on the flanks. As Birmingham World revealed in April, internal talks took place at Wolves about Diangana as a potential target.
There’s been a development since, though, likely spelling the end of the Old Gold’s interest in Diangana. Celta Vigo winger Fer Lopez is on the verge of signing as Birmingham World understands a £19.5 million bid has been accepted. Predominantly a right forward, Lopez has averaged a goal every 334 minutes in La Liga and is among Spanish football’s most productive dribblers.
West Brom eager to seal Tottenham double raid
Albion are weighing up who they should try to sign to replace the likes of Diangana and Swift given the importance of the left wing and attacking midfield positions. New head coach Ryan Mason could cash in a favour at former club Tottenham Hotspur to help the Baggies’ case as there are suitable players who could be loaned in to cover those areas of the field.
Birmingham World understands an enquiry was sent to sign Spurs attacking midfielder Jamie Donley before Mason even arrived. The 20-year-old Northern Ireland international scored eight goals and provided 10 assists in 39 League One games on loan at Leyton Orient last season.
It’s also understood that Spurs winger Mikey Moore is on Albion’s radar, also for a loan. The 17-year-old racked up over 1,000 minutes at senior level for Spurs last season, including 361 in the Premier League. The left winger, a nine-time England Under-19 international, started the two final league fixtures of the season against Crystal Palace and Aston Villa before watching on from the sidelines as his side clinched the Europa League title against Manchester United in Bilbao.
Birmingham City are also interested in signing Moore but Albion should have the upper-hand thanks to Mason working with the player at Spurs.
