The Chicago White Sox have come out with a plan of attack so far this offseason. After years of not doing much over the offseason, things have changed for the South Siders this year.
The front office is starting to push this rebuild forward, and the fanbase could not be happier. They have been used to a terrible on-field product, but things should be much better in 2026.
Just the arrival of Munetaka Murakami alone speaks volumes for this team, but they did not stop there. They also signed Seranthony Dominguez, Sean Newcomb, and, most recently, came to terms with outfielder Austin Hays.
White Sox come to terms with Austin Hays, DFA LHP to make room on roster
On Thursday, the White Sox announced they had officially come to terms with Austin Hays. However, a left-handed pitcher got the short end of the stick with this addition.
“The White Sox have agreed to terms with outfielder Austin Hays on a one-year, $6–million contract, which includes a mutual option for the 2027 season. To make room for Hays on the 40-man roster, the White Sox designated Bryan Hudson for assignment.”
Hudson was claimed off waivers last August, making four appearances out of the bullpen. He has now been DFA’d three different times over the course of his career.
For the White Sox, this was a pretty simple move. Hudson does not bring in a ton of value, and Chicago desperately needed an outfielder they could depend on now with Luis Robert Jr. gone.
With the arrival of Hays, things are starting to take shape for this club. They could roll out a starting lineup that looks like this:

3B Miguel Vargas
SS Colson Montgomery
1B Munetaka Murakami
LF Andrew Benintendi
C Kyle Teel
RF Austin Hays
DH Edgar Quero
Now, there are not many stars across this lineup, but the product should be much better than what they put out in 2025. They likely won’t contend, but should be competitive enough for fans to watch all season.
