A pair of Michigan women’s basketball players will likely spend their fifth college seasons elsewhere. Cameron Williams and Elise Stuck have entered the transfer portal as graduate students, a program spokesperson confirmed on Tuesday.
Williams appeared in all 34 games this season with 16 starts, averaging 17.8 minutes, 7.5 points, and a team-high 4.6 rebounds per game. She started and led Michigan with 18 points in a season-ending loss to Kansas in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday. The 6-foot-3 forward from Chicago appeared in 109 career games for Michigan with 39 starts.
Stuck played in 33 games this season, including three starts, averaging 9.3 minutes per contest. She did not see the court against Kansas. The 6-foot-1 guard/forward, who attended Charlevoix High School, appeared in 103 games over her career.
Both Stuck and Williams earned academic All-Big Ten honors each of the past three years. They arrived at Michigan together, and their freshman season in 2020-21 did not count against their eligibility due to the NCAA’s COVID-19 waiver. It allows them to play a fifth season, and they are at least considering that option. Next season is the last that will feature players taking advantage of that waiver.
Williams mostly played the center position for Michigan, and the Wolverines return the 6-foot-2 Chyra Evans, who made 22 starts as a sophomore this season. Michigan also signed a pair of post players to its 2024 recruiting class. The five-player class includes two five-star, top-15 recruits: guards Syla Swords and Olivia Olson, both of whom are McDonald’s All-Americans.
The Wolverines finished 21-14 this season and in sixth place in the Big Ten. They earned a 9 seed in the NCAA Tournament, their sixth straight appearance in the event, and lost to 8 seed Kansas in overtime.
