Thomas Frank has become the fourth permanent Tottenham Hotspur boss in as many years and will succeed Ange Postecoglou, who was relieved of his duties last week.
The Danish manager has put pen to paper on a three-year contract with the Lilywhites to bring his nine-year association with Brentford to an end. Now that a new head coach is in place, focus will immediately shift towards the recruitment as Daniel Levy has a lot of work to do in the transfer market.
Spurs finished 17th in the Premier League last season, which is utterly embarrassing for a club of such prestige and history. And with the club also set to compete in the Champions League next term, Daniel Levy has to make sure Thomas Frank gets a squad capable of fighting on all fronts. The chairman must look to move on players who don’t have a future at White Hart Lane.
Richarlison has been linked with an exit from Spurs for a while now. The Brazilian international has had a frustrating time in North London since joining from Everton in the summer of 2022. Persistent injuries, fitness concerns and chronic inconsistency have not allowed him to fulfil his potential at Tottenham.
The 2024/25 season was no different, which saw the forward largely play a bit-part role. He could only muster 942 minutes across 24 appearances in all competitions in a White shirt, something which has left the Hotspur Way chiefs frustrated. They are now willing to sell him this summer.
Everton have been keen on re-signing Richarlison, viewing him as a potential replacement for Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who is set to leave Goodison Park on a free transfer at the end of June. The Toffees have perhaps been boosted in their pursuit of the 28-year-old, with new CEO Angus Kinnear sharing a good relationship with Levy.
Now, former Leicester City and Brentford manager Martin Allen believes an offer around £20m would see Tottenham offload Richarlison in this transfer window.
“Richarlison is a funny one,” Martin Allen exclusively told Tottenham News.
“He was such a good player a few years ago, and he’s been in and out of this Tottenham team. He played very well in the cup final, it has to be said, but throughout the season, I would say he’s been very average.
“If they can cash in and get money for him now, who would buy him? I’m not so sure. He played well in the final, but he’s got to do that every week rather than every 10 games. Therefore, I think Tottenham have to move him on.
“How much would they get? I think if they got £20m, they’d be driving him to whoever wants him.”
With just 20 goals in three seasons, there is no doubt that the Richarlison signing has been a complete failure for Tottenham. The move has not worked out for both parties involved and the time is right for the North Londoners to move him on off their books.
It is shame because the South American had arrived at N17 from Everton with a lot of promise and excitement. Various injuries have hampered his progress, and with Richarlison now entering the final two years of his contract, Levy must bite the bullet and offload him at a reasonable fee.
