Swindon Town are delighted to announce the signing of goalkeeper Lewis Ward on a one-year contract, subject to EFL approval.

The experienced shot-stopper makes his return to the Nigel Eady County Ground, having previously represented the Robins during the 2021/22 and 2023/24 campaigns. Now 28 years old, Ward brings valuable experience and leadership to the dressing room, having played for a number of EFL clubs, including Exeter City, Forest Green Rovers, and most recently, AFC Wimbledon, where he was part of the squad that gained promotion to League One.

His commanding presence and vocal leadership at the back will be a key asset as Swindon look to build a competitive squad for the new season and goalkeeping unit alongside Connor Ripley and goalkeeper coach Steve Mildenhall. Speaking about his return, Ward said: “I’m looking forward to being back. The opportunity just felt right to return. I had really good conversations with Steve Mildenhall over the off-season, came back in training with the group, and from the first conversation with the manager, everything just seemed to fit together.”

“The manager and Steve played a huge part in my reason to return to the club; everything we’ve discussed is everything I wanted to hear. Every conversation was positive, and it feels like he is taking the club in a great direction. Working with Connor the last couple of days has been really good; he’s a fantastic keeper, and we know all of our goals are the same, and we will support each other to get to them.”

Lewis Ward will join up with the squad immediately as preparations for the 2025/26 campaign continue, and he will wear the number twelve shirt this season.
