Ian Holloway said he is expecting a new arrival at the club today to bolster Swindon Town’s attacking options.
While Holloway wouldn’t reveal the identity of the player, he confirmed that Town’s latest addition would either be a striker or winger.
The manager also said that Town’s new frontman could make his debut as soon as Friday night away at Newport County, and might not be the last player through the door before the end of the transfer window.
Speaking to BBC Radio Wiltshire, he said: “I don’t see anyone else going out, and we might see a couple more coming in.
“One of them is definitely done and if he arrives will definitely be on the bench for Friday, and then I’m not going to lose any sleep between now and the end of the season in terms of us having players fit enough and ready to score goals.”
“It’s a very good get for us, I’m not going to tell you who it is, he’ll be here on Thursday.
“It won’t blow your socks off and you probably won’t have heard of him, but I like his skillset and all of our forwards can play alongside him.
“It means now that if I want to take three [forwards] off and put three on I can, which I haven’t been able to do yet.”
“It will put pressure on all of our players but that’s what they need, and if you want to be part of a big club then you need to have better players around you.
Holloway also praised the variety of his striking options currently at the club but said the new addition was necessary in the event of injury.
“When I talk about players’ skillsets I’m looking at who I can put up there with Harry [Smith], is it Aaron Drinan who can run over the top, is it Kabs [Tshimanga] who is powerful and can knock people about, is it Paul Glatzel who can get in the box?”
“What happens if someone up top gets injured, especially Harry? So there might be some movement with the centre forwards cos I always like to stack ’em and rack ’em.”
Holloway said that January arrival Tom Nichols was still lacking fitness but that the 31-year-old’s experience was benefitting the squad.
“Last week Tom was nowhere near fit enough, but he won a couple of fouls for us using his body and a bit of nous which bought us some time.
“He knows what he is doing, and when you look around the dressing room you need to see that to avoid the panics like we had against Colchester.”
