Swindon Stun Nine-Man Rovers With Late Showdown In Win Against Tranmere

SWINDON scored three goals from the 87th minute onwards to snatch a dramatic win over a Tranmere side who finished with nine men.

Paul Glatzel, Harry Smith and Kabongo Tshimanga struck in the closing stages as Cameron Norman’s red card turned the game and Declan Drysdale followed in stoppage time to wrap up a 3-1 success.

Rovers looked on course to bag their first victory at the County Ground for nearly 20 years after Josh Davison’s wonder strike.

The former Swindon loanee barrelled down the right flank and slammed inside the near post from an almost impossible angle after just seven minutes.

After that early embarrassment, Town goalkeeper Jack Bycroft then made sure to get a firm hand to punch Sol Solomon’s inswinging free-kick over.

After the break Smith nearly scored from a corner before Swindon substitute Danny Butterworth hit the post with a deflected shot.

A reckless tackle on Smith saw Norman collect a second yellow in the 62nd minute.

Tranmere looked set to hold out but with three minutes of normal time left, sub Glatzel smashed home in a crowded box.

And in the 90th minute Smith bundled home at the far post, before Drysdale saw red for handball and Tshimanga slotted home the penalty four minutes into added time to lift improving Town to 16th.

For Rovers however, it is an eighth successive away defeat meaning Nigel Adkins side stay 22nd in the League Two table, five points above the relegation zone.
