Ivan Juric Gives An Optimistic Hint About Tweaking The Attacking Unit

Speaking to the Daily Echo, Juric said: “I think the best position for him is the position of Mateus Fernandes.”

The Mateus Fernandes reference may mean Juric is planning to change the Portuguese’s midfield role. Recently, Fernandes bagged an offside goal against Newcastle United and the finish was absolutely world class.

Though the goal was discarded, Fernandes’ finish inside the box showed that he could be used as a second striker alongside Paul Onuachu. On top of that, the duo share good chemistry with Fernandes attempting numerous crosses and Onuachu dominating heading opportunities.

In fact, both of them even combined on the Nigerian’s first Southampton goal. Up until now, Juric could have been reluctant to try Fernandes as an attacker due to the unavailability of an in-form playmaker in the team.

That would be resolved now with Albert Gronbaek’s presence. Apart from that, Gronbaek and Fernandes could be operated as two centre forwards on either side of Onuachu.

Whatever be Juric’s lineup change, excitement is building ahead of Gronbaek’s first match for Southampton.
