Stephen Darby Thanks Swindon Over MND Kit For Bantams Game

Swindon Town will wear a special white kit this weekend against Bradford City, supporting former player Stephen Darby.

As one fan mentioned to the T&A on social media this week, it is of course the ‘Darby Derby’ on Saturday, with the popular defender having turned out for both clubs.

The full back was playing for Bolton when he was shockingly diagnosed with the incurable Motor Neurone Disease in 2018, at the age of just 29.

Along with fellow sufferer, and close friend, Chris Rimmer, he set up the Darby Rimmer MND Foundation shortly afterwards, which has since raised millions of pounds.

The foundation helps create awareness of MND, supports those living with the condition, and funds and assists research into the illness with the quest of finding a cure.

And with Swindon facing the Bantams at the County Ground this weekend, the hosts have chosen to wear the white kit, with the Foundation’s name on the front of the shirt.

The shirts are available to purchase on Pro:Direct, and limited numbers will also be available in the club shop, with £5 from each sale going to support the foundation.

The match-worn shirts will also be auctioned off after the game, with those profits also being given to the Darby Rimmer MND Foundation.

In a statement on the club website, Darby said: “I only had a short loan spell at Swindon Town, but I loved every minute.

“The club and fans supported me on the pitch and since my diagnosis they have been massive supporters of myself, the Foundation and the fight against Motor Neurone Disease.

“Once again, the club has gone above and beyond by wearing the Foundation’s name on the front of their shirt.
