Ryan Fraser is closing in on his Southampton exit, with a loan move to Western Sydney Wanderers in Australia set to be complete, and one supporter has spoken highly of him before his departure.
The winger has made 16 appearances for the Saints so far this season, registering two assists. He moved to the Hampshire outfit permanently in the summer of 2024 after a strong loan spell at St. Mary’s, helping the club to promotion to the Premier League in his first year.
However, his form has tailed off over the course of the last 16 months and his importance has decreased dramatically, and he has started just nine times in the Championship in 2025/26, and he has been out of the squad since December 29.
Nonetheless, a move to Australia is getting closer to being finalised, and the 31-year-old may have played his final game for Southampton.

Tom Lawrence has proven that the A League is a division that can give a player fresh ambition, and when asked if the move is the right decision for Fraser, Football League World’s Southampton Fan Pundit, Martin Sanders, said: “He didn’t really play any amount last year.
“He was good in his first season on the loan, and he started the season off quite well. We’ve bought in those areas and I think he’s coming to the end of his career, and it looked like he was destined to move on really. I think it’s a great move for him to go and finish his career. I probably imagine playing in Australia is pretty nice. He’s got a lovely family; he’s a nice person. I’ve got a lot of time for him, a lot of respect for him, and I wish him the very best.”
Martin concluded: “He took a bit of flack here from Saints fans, probably because of the way the Bournemouth fans used to speak about him, but he’s actually a professional on the field and I wish him all the best because he’s a top guy.”

It’s been three-and-a-half weeks since Fraser last made the squad for Southampton, with the winger playing the final 20 minutes of his side’s 2-1 defeat to Oxford United on Boxing Day.

The Aberdeen-born ace has started just once since the end of October, and therefore a move away would be the best possible way for him to get the game time he desires.
Fraser has created 13 chances for his teammates in the Championship, while successfully completing 50% of his dribbles. However, he has found it difficult to be a direct goal threat, having just four shots so far in 2025/26.

Fraser has been a regular in the Premier League and the Championship throughout his career, but with his minutes now limited, Australia may well offer the player the opportunity to find his feet once again.
