Sky Sports pundit reveals fear Rangers won’t win the title if they don’t do this first

Kris Boyd says Rangers were annihilated as their hopes of another Champions League campaign were ended by a 5-1 demolition against PSV Eindhoven.

Kris Boyd fears Rangers won’t win the title if they don’t have a four or five point lead going into the split, admitting that will be a huge ask.

The Ibrox side avoided becoming outsiders in the Premiership race by beating to ensure to enusre they closed the gap to two points instead of widening it to eight. They remain second, with Celtic a point further behind with a game in hand.

Many felt it was a statement win as they dominated the league leaders but Boyd is still not convinced by their title charge.

Because of the fact they will need to play both of the other challengers away from home post-split, he thinks they would need to give themselves a solid buffer heading into it.

Speaking to the Scottish Sun, the Ibrox hero said: “I feel as if Rangers need to go into the split with a lead, if they’re going to win it, because they’re going to have three away games. They’ll have to go to Tynecastle, they’ll have to go to Celtic Park and then they’re either going to have to go to, I think it’ll be Easter Road or Fir Park.

“I’m sure right now they would be looking towards Easter Road, although that’s a tough venue. But when you look at Motherwell, I mean, another clean sheet for them at home yesterday as well.

“You kind of get the feeling for me, I think Rangers need to go into that top six with a lead. And I don’t mean just a one or two point, I think they need to go in there with four or five point lead at the top of the table and it’s, it’s going to be a huge ask.”
