Sheffield Wednesday Set Transfer Deadline For Loan Star

Sheffield Wednesday have until the end of today (Thursday) agree improved terms of Shea Charles’ loan if they want to keep him, as per The Star.

Sheffield Wednesday are in the midst of an important January transfer window, but it’s not been one without issues. SWFC owner Dejphon and Chansiri and manager Danny Rohl saw communication break down, though clear-the-air talks look to have settled matters.

However, one saga that remains unresolved surrounds loan star Shea Charles.

Chansiri dramatically revealed at a fans forum that Southampton had recalled the Owls loan favourite, but he has remained onboard for now. Links with Sheffield United followed, sparking fears among supporters.

Now, a fresh update on Charles’ situation at Sheffield Wednesday has emerged from The Star.

They state that with clubs in the UK and overseas circling, Southampton have set SWFC a deadline of today to thrash out renegotiated terms over the midfielder’s loan. They want an increased loan fee and a larger wage contribution and if an agreement isn’t reached, other options will be explored by the Saints.

Charles’ preference is to stay at Hillsborough, which could prove key, but he may not get his wish, the report says.

The saga rumbles on

The latest update marks a new twist in the Charles saga, with Sheffield Wednesday now facing a race against the clock to try and strike a deal to keep the midfield star for the rest of the season.

Hopefully there will be a better idea of exactly how the situation will pan out after today. Uncertainty is rife at the moment, but one thing for sure is that the Northern Ireland international will not be short of options if he is brought back to Southampton.

A move elsewhere may await, or the Saints could yet opt to keep him. The fact Lesley Ugochukwu looks set to remain St. Mary’s indicates a move to another club is more likely though.

Losing Charles

There’s no hiding what a blow it would be for SWFC to lose Charles.

He’s been a cut above for Sheffield Wednesday this season, offering the rare balance of impressive physical attributes and the combative, defensive side of the game and the technical ability to play at the very highest level.

While losing Charles would sting, seeing him go to rivals Sheffield United would hurt even more.

Time will tell just what decision Southampton come to though with the Owls up against the clock to strike renegotiated terms for his loan stay.
