Shamrock Rovers Loan Out 19-Year-Old Midfielder

John O’Sullivan has made the move on loan from Shamrock Rovers to Drogheda United for the remainder of the 2025 season.

The 19-year-old is a product of the Shamrock Rovers academy having been with the Hoops since under-13 level. He made a league debut for the Hoops in April 2024 off the bench against Drogheda.

He spent the second half of last season with Bray Wanderers scoring on his debut against Finn Harps, and scoring the winning penalty in the shootout against Athlone Town to send Bray Wanderers to the Promotion/Relegation Play-Off Final.

Stephen Bradley was keen to have the teenager back in Tallaght for this season and handed him a European debut in Rovers’ UEFA Conference League Knockout Phase Playoff against Molde and he scored in the shootout that the Hoops ultimately lost in Tallaght.

He has made eight league appearances for the Hoops this season (including two starts) and he played in Rovers’ friendly match against Glenavon last Friday but will now join Kevin Doherty’s side for the remainder of the 2025 season.

His new manager Kevin Doherty spoke about his new player: “I’m delighted with the signing of John, he’s got the right profile that we really like and he fits into our model. He’s played in Europe and a lot of really big games for Rovers so I’m delighted.

“He’s really good on the ball and he can do both sides of the game, defend and attack. He was very keen to come and play with us which is always something we want.”
