Sam Walker has been dealt yet another setback in his bid to return to first grade after the Roosters gun prepares to spend the next month on the sideline.
Walker has been a notable absentee for the Roosters this season as he continued his recovery journey for an anterior cruciate ligament injury.
Trent Robinson confirmed the 22-year-old would be taking to the field against the Knights on Saturday, having completed 40 minutes with the club’s NSW Cup team.
However, the halfback suffered a broken thumb at training on Thursday and will now undergo surgery, ruling him out for the next four weeks.
Walker could only miss three matches during his stint on the sidelines, with the Chooks due for a bye in round 17 while he will be out of action.
Sandon Smith will be the man to replace Walker in the halves for matches against the Knights and Cowboys over the next fortnight.
The 22-year-old has frequented the No.6 jersey so far this season for the Roosters, however, Robinson opted in favour of Hugo Savala to partner Walker on return.
Smith was dropped to the bench for the Tricolours upcoming clash against Newcastle on Saturday but will now be recalled to join Savala for another stint.
