United States youth international Jonathan Tomkinson has been linked with a move to Reading when the transfer window reopens next week.
The 23-year-old central defender was released by Norwich City this month, making three appearances for the Canaries after graduating from their youth system.
Having spent the last three years on loan, firstly at Stevenage and Bradford City, the Texan joined Ross County in January where he made nine appearances.
The Scottish side were relegated to the Scottish Championship in May after losing to Livingston in the play-off, with teammate Ronan Hale linked heavily to a switch to Reading.
According to The Athletic, the Royals are keen on the defender, as are Portsmouth, Stockport County and Rotherham United.
Reading are likely to be in need of central defenders having lost Tyler Bindon and looking likely to lose Amadou Mbengue amid Championship interest.
The summer transfer window is closed until June 16, having temporarily closing on Tuesday in order to meet FIFA regulations and to enable clubs participating in the Club World Cup to strengthen.
New owner Rob Couhig has called for calm among supporters, with only six players currently contracted beyond June, and hinted that the window could become a ‘spectacular’ one.
