Reading boss Noel Hunt has labelled Rob Couhig’s takeover of the club ‘really great news’ and is keen to build a strong relationship.
The former Wycombe Wanderers chief completed his long-awaited takeover on Saturday ahead of the final match of the season, which the Royals lost 4-2 to Barnsley.
He had first attempted to purchase the club in August 2024, but a deal could not be completed despite reaching the final stages.
Now out of the torrid Dai Yongge era, Hunt felt as relieved as over 21,000 supporters were at the SCL Stadium yesterday.
“It’s good news. It’s positive and really great. He seems active, we’re chatting and it’s a step in the right direction 100 per cent.”
Present at the match with business partner Todd Trosclair, the pair met with the staff and squad after the final whistle to make introductions and celebrate the seventh-place finish.
“I briefly had a quick word with him. He’s going to come and join us for a drink. He didn’t want to impose but he’s not imposing- he’s hopefully now the owner of our amazing football club. It is important that we have a good relationship.”
The deal is yet to be fully ratified or confirmed on Companies House, however the club insist no issues are expected to arise.
