Parramatta Eels offer $900,000 to fullback amid rivalry from Sydney Roosters

Cody Ramsey’s future at St George Illawarra remains clouded, with reports suggesting the Parramatta Eels and Sydney Roosters have emerged as leading contenders for his services beyond 202.

The 24-year-old fullback and winger, who was recently named the Dragons’ NSW Cup player of the year, has not been offered a Top 30 contract by the club despite captaining their reserve-grade side into the grand final later this month.

According to Wide World of Sports’ The Mole, both Parramatta and the Roosters are in the frame as Ramsey considers his next move. His management has confirmed interest from both NRL outfits as well as rugby union clubs, opening the door for a career shift.

At Parramatta, the backline picture is unsettled following Bailey Simonsson’s request for a release. While Josh Addo-Carr, Zac Lomax, Will Penisini and rising fullback Isaiah Iongi appear locked in, one spot in the back five is still up for grabs, leaving room for Ramsey to make his mark.

The Roosters, meanwhile, are planning for life after veterans James Tedesco and Daniel Tupou, both off contract at the end of next season. With Mark Nawaqanitawase potentially returning to rugby union, Ramsey’s versatility could prove invaluable as they build their next generation of outside backs.

Despite his resilience through a battle with ulcerative colitis and his leadership in the Dragons’ lower grades, a Red V recall looks unlikely. If the whispers prove true, Ramsey may soon find himself donning either blue and gold or red, white and blue in 2026.
