The Orioles have inked veteran right-handed pitcher Charlie Morton to a one-year contract to help the team’s starting rotation.
In his second stint with the Atlanta Braves last season, Morton went 8-10 with a 4.19 earned runs average, 154 hits (23 HR), 85 total runs, 65 walks and 167 strikeouts.
Baltimore will be the 17-year veteran’s sixth team. He has pitched for Atlanta twice, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Houston and Tampa Bay.
The two-time World Series champ has a career record of 138-123 with a 4.01 ERA, 1,991 hits (203 HR), 1,045 total runs, 787 walks, 186 hit batters and 2,047 strikeouts in 383 games. He is tied for seventh all-time in wins.
Morton had 14 starts of six innings or more and 11 starts reaching seven or more strikeouts last season, likely helping garner interest from the Orioles.
Morton will help fill the void of Corbin Burnes, who was lost to Arizona in free agency. He has pitched at least 150 innings in four of the last five seasons, despite being one of the oldest pitchers in MLB.
