Mark Robins hopes that Stoke City will be able to get one more new signing in before the transfer deadline on Monday (7pm).
Stoke have been looking to add a winger to fill their 25-man squad and keep hopes burning of crashing into the top six – even if they took a blow with a poor 2-0 home defeat to Southampton on Saturday lunchtime.
The Potters have already brought in Gavin Bazunu and Milan Smit so far this month and have been exploring the loan market for a final deal of the window.
The strongest link has been with Crystal Palace’s in-demand Jesurun Rak-Sakyi, who is now also being linked with Millwall.
Robins said: “It’s not a case of being expectant, I just know that everyone is working, working hard, because they want to try to help us attack the top six. I know that seems laughable after the result and performance against Southampton.
“From my point of view we will try to do something if we can but it has to be the right player, it has to be the right money and all of those things. There is a willingness from the owner as always to help with that.
“Regardless, I think we’ve got plenty on our plate to work at next week to make sure we get a better performance against West Brom.”
Million Manhoef was missing with what was described as ‘a precaution’. Robins said he hopes to see him back “sharpish”.
