Swindon Town are set to complete the signing of a highly sought-after forward, before Friday’s deadline after having a deal accepted.
Mark Kennedy’s side were held to a goalless draw by Crewe Alexandra at the weekend and are yet to win a match this season after being held against Chesterfield and losing to both Crawley Town (EFL Cup) and Walsall.
The club have also scored just one league goal this season, tied with Salford and Tranmere whilst Crewe Alexandra and Morecambe are yet to score.
A lack of goals is likely to suggest the initial motive behind Swindon Town’s move for the player, having had a bid accepted ahead of the deadline later this week.
Swindon to clinch Tshimanga signing
As reported by journalist Charlie McLellan, Swindon Town have won the race to sign Peterborough United striker Kabongo Tshimanga on a season-long loan deal.
The forward had interest from two National League clubs who also made offers for the talisman but wasn’t able to persuade Tshimanga to drop to the fifth tier.
Similarly, McLellan has confirmed that Tshimanga only had eyes for Swindon Town, rather than drop to the National League.
How did he fare last season?
The 27-year-old began the 2023/24 season on loan at Fleetwood Town, where he made 24 appearances in all competitions in the third tier, scoring two goals.
In January, he was recalled by Peterborough United but was quickly loaned back out to then-National League side Boreham Wood where he rediscovered his goalscoring touch.
Under Luke Garrard, Tshimanga scored seven goals in 16 appearances for Boreham Wood but wasn’t able to help keep the football club in the division, resulting in their relegation on the final day after drawing against Ebbsfleet United.
Can Tshimanga succeed at Swindon?
Tshimanga struggled to score in League One at both Peterborough United and Fleetwood Town but scored a flurry of goals in the National League with Chesterfield and Boreham Wood.
Therefore, with League Two being a middle ground between the two divisions in question, Tshimanga’s move could go either way.
He knows exactly where the back of the net is, highlighted by averaging almost one in every two matches with Boreham Wood last season, but has struggled for goals in League One.
Swindon proved with Jake Young last season that they know how to get the best from some of their loan players and a move under Mark Kennedy could allow Tshimanga to make his mark in the EFL.
