Major issues’ for Manly Sea Eagles as fullback begins to explore options to depart club

Tom Trbojevic firms for NSW State of Origin selection with hat-trick in Sea Eagles' 42-14 NRL win over Raiders - ABC News

Tom Trbojevic is “looking at his options” to play overseas once his current Manly deal expires, according to Nine’s Danny Weidler.

The superstar fullback is contracted to the Sea Eagles until the end of next season on a deal said to be worth $1.3 million a year.

The club has been trying to get the 2021 Dally M Medal winner to commit long-term but he has so far baulked at signing an extension.

He and older brother Jake signed long deals in 2019 tying them to the northern beaches club until the end of 2026.

They will be free agents come November 1 and can be approached by rival clubs.

The 28-year-old is injury prone and played just 81 games in the last six seasons, but is arguably the best player in the NRL when at his peak.

He was moved between fullback and centre this year by coach Anthony Seibold in an effort to reignite his form, but it was well below par for most of the campaign.

The Sea Eagles missed finals and rumblings have emerged about player discontent towards Seibold.

Club captain Daly Cherry-Evans made the sensational call to quit the Sea Eagles and he is likely headed to the Roosters at the end of the year.

Trbojevic has been open about his value no longer matching the $1.3m salary the club will pay him next year.

He previously offered to take a pay cut to help the club fix its roster, but now it seems he is prepared to leave altogether.

“I don’t want to let people down,” Trbojevic said last month.

“It’s what I value, and I know I’m paid very well and haven’t played enough footy to justify what I’ve been paid. So that’s where that came from.

“I’ll sit down at the end of the year and work all that out. I’m not really too focused on it right now.

“I understand I’m not going to be paid the same amount that I’m worth now.”

The future of his brother Jake is also in doubt after his season was ended prematurely by a number of concussions this year.

Seibold has previously hit back at questions about his future with Manly and will coach the team again in 2026.
