Bakinson – who has signed a three-year contract – has a wealth of experience in the Sky Bet Championship and at the top end of Sky Bet League One, and was an important part of the Sheffield Wednesday side who won promotion to the second tier in the 2022/23 campaign.
The 26-year-old joined the Chairboys in the summer of 2024, and made 34 appearances throughout the 2024/25 campaign in all competitions.
Head Coach Richie Wellens said: “Tyreeq is someone I have wanted to sign for a long time now, and we’re buzzing to have him on board. Technically, he’s an excellent player, and he’s coming into an age now where we feel he is ready to hit the peak of his abilities.
“We wanted to sign him last summer and with us recently losing a couple of midfielders, we needed someone of Tyreeq’s ability to come in and fill that void. We’re confident that he can bring real athleticism and tenacity into our midfield, and I’m excited to see what he can do in an Orient shirt.”
A box-to-box midfielder, Bakinson began his career at Luton Town and has also had spells at Bristol City, Newport County, Plymouth Argyle – where he also won a promotion – Ipswich Town, Wednesday and Charlton Athletic.
He becomes Orient’s sixth signing of the summer transfer window, joining Killian Cahill, Demetri Mitchell, Michael Craig, Idris El Mizouni and Aaron Connolly at the club.
The midfielder has flown out to Spain to meet up with the Orient squad and could feature in Friday’s pre-season friendly against Pafos FC.
Bakinson said: “I’m delighted to get it over the line and be here with the boys. I’m really excited to get started for the season.
“The first session was tough in this heat, but the manager wants the fitness and intensity from his teams, and it was really good to start getting used to what the staff want from us.”
Director of Football, Martin Ling, added: “With the players who have departed us so far this window, we always knew that we had to bring others in and Tyreeq has been right at the top of our list from the start. He is someone we have monitored for a good 18 months now and he adds something to our midfield that we didn’t think we currently had.
“We’re really pleased to have him on board. He firms up our midfield unit and is another piece of the jigsaw for us.”
