Leeds United are being left continually frustrated by Emi Buendia as he puts off a move to the Championship from Aston Villa, according to The Sun on Sunday.
On page 55 of Sunday’s print edition (26 January), it is reported Buendia, 28, is prioritising listening to offers from elsewhere to leave Villa Park before seriously contemplating a switch to Elland Road.
The Argentine attacking midfielder, who is on the fringes at Villa following a lengthy injury lay-off last season, previously worked under Daniel Farke at Norwich City and Leeds appear willing to pay a fee during the winter transfer window as well as arrange a loan.
The report read: “Leeds are facing frustration in their bid to land Emi Buendia from Aston Villa.
“The Championship high-flyers would buy the midfield magician or take him on loan.
“However, the out-of-favour Argentinian, 28, is not keen on a drop to the second tier and will wait for top-level offers.”
Leeds United remain active in the market but there is no guarantee of any signings before 3 February.
Leeds United pursuit of Buendia proving a nuisance
It’s understandable why Leeds fans and the club themselves are being left pulling their collective hair out over the saga for Buendia.
It is clear Aston Villa are open to parting with their once-instrumental attacking midfielder, whose injury absence last year has seen him left behind in a side now flying high in the Champions League.
As a result, Buendia is garnering plenty of anticipated interest and the player himself knows he is good enough to get regular game time in a few top-level teams, the majority abroad.
However, to shut down even a temporary move to a side leading the way in the Championship to earn another promotion medal appears a short-sighted decision.
There is no reason, based on the latest reports, why Buendia could not be a regular Premier League player within seven months should he take the plunge as he sees it and reunite with Farke in West Yorkshire.
