Jessica Pegula Opens Up About Her Latest Knee Injury At Brisbane International

Jessica Pegula provided an update on her health status after withdrawing from last week’s WTA Brisbane International. The World No. 6 is preparing for her first tournament of the year at the Adelaide International, where she will be the top seed in a star-studded draw featuring players such as Emma Navarro, Daria Kasatkina, Paula Badosa, Danielle Collins, and Mirra Andreeva.

The American finished 2024 at the WTA Finals, where she played two round-robin matches (losing to Gauff and Krejcikova) and retired before her final match against Iga Swiatek due to knee injury.

Pegula preps for Adelaide International after knee setback

Upon arriving in Adelaide, Pegula expressed positive feelings with her off-season work and spoke about the injury she suffered. “The off-season was pretty good, I was battling a little bit with the knee injury,” Pegula explained.

“So I felt like it went well, but I just needed a little bit of an extra week, that’s why I opted out of playing in Brisbane, starting here instead. I’m feeling really good, all is well, I enjoyed the nice break, and I’m ready to start the 2025 season.”

The 2024 US Open runner-up will have a first-round bye, so she is still waiting to define her opponent. It won’t be easy, as she will face one of the rising stars, either Linda Noskova, 20 (No. 26), or Mirra Andreeva, 17 (No. 16). A potential quarter-final could see her face Paula Badosa (No. 12) or Marta Kostyuk (No. 18).

The former World No. 2 will also compete in the doubles draw alongside her compatriot Ashlyn Krueger. They will face the top-seeded Jelena Ostapenko and Su-Wei Hsieh.
