Ipswich Town are set to target “six” new signings if they are promoted to the Premier League this season

Ipswich Town are set to target “six” new signings if they are promoted to the Premier League this season, sources have told Football Insider.

The main priority for the Championship outfit will be to recruit two strikers and two centre-backs should they go up as they look to maintain their place in the English top-flight rather than instantly get demoted again.

The Tractor Boys are currently well in the mix for an instant return to the Premier League, and would go second if they win their two games in hand.

Currently, the East Anglican outfit are fourth in the Championship, three points off Millwall in second, having played two games less.

Below, Football Insider has explored whether their proposed transfer activity would be enough to keep Ipswich in the Premier League.

Ipswich Town aiming to maintain stay in Premier League

Last season, Ipswich’s survival push was poor to say the least.

Kieran McKenna’s side only managed 22 points and ended up being 16 points from safety upon the season’s conclusion.

Ipswich were terrible in the Premier League last season

This was despite boasting players such as Liam Delap in their squad, who has gone on to become a first-teamer for Chelsea.

However, this season, Sunderland and potentially Leeds United have proven that if you spend money on the right players, you will stay in the Premier League.

Many top-flight sides are now struggling compared to recent years, with West Ham, Nottingham Forest and Tottenham Hotspur experiencing dramatic downturns.

Therefore, if Ipswich are spot on with their recruitment, they will have every chance of staying in the division, especially with many of their current players now having experience of a relegation battle.

What are the odds on Ipswich getting promoted to the Premier League?

Opta on 3 April has insisted that Ipswich are the most likely team to join Coventry City in the Premier League next season.

The supercomputer predicts that the Tractor Boys will finish second, giving them a 42.5 per cent chance of getting promoted automatically.

In comparison, Millwall are predicted to finish third, with a 29.76 per cent chance of finishing second.

Middlesbrough are also still in the running with a 25.80 per cent chance despite their recent defeat to the Lions.

Nevertheless, it remains to be seen who will take the final spot, with plenty of twists and turns still expected in the Championship this season.
