The Colts could be without Pro Bowl defensive tackle DeForest Buckner for at least a few weeks, pending the result of an upcoming MRI.
According to Fox59/CBS4’s Mike Chappell, Indianapolis Colts defensive tackle DeForest Buckner’s recent x-rays were negative on his injured ankle, but he’ll undergo an MRI imminently to determine the full extent of its severity:
Buckner injured his right ankle on a tackle attempt in the 3rd quarter and was reportedly seen leaving the field on a medical cart. While he was initially designated as ‘questionable’ to return, the Colts Pro Bowl defensive tackle was later ruled out for the remainder of the game during the fourth quarter.
For a Colts defense that is reeling right now—particularly against the run, Buckner’s loss would be a critical one, as he’s really the catalyst along their defensive line that powers the defense all together as the unit’s most valuable player. While he’s more known for his interior pass rushing, Buckner is also an asset against the run from the 3T spot as well, particularly when compared to his potential replacements off the Colts sideline.
After not practicing all week, Buckner entered Sunday’s game as “questionable” due to a back injury suffered in the opener and was on an obvious ‘pitch count’ on Sunday—with more limited snaps, but this latest ankle injury appears to be unrelated.
During two games in 2024, Buckner has 6 tackles (5 solo) and 1.5 sacks.
