Hull F.C. Head coach John Cartwright confirmed another season-ending injury for a Hull FC forward

John Cartwright has confirmed another season-ending injury for a Hull FC forward, with back rower Jed Cartwright ruled out for the rest of the year.

Cartwright joins the likes of John Asiata, Will Pryce, Liam Knight, and Ligi Sao on the treatment table, with the quartet also suffering the same fate this season.

The forward left the field less than five minutes into last Friday’s game at St Helens with a pectoral blow, with Cartwright confirming the injury will now require scans to determine the severity.

Providing a full injury update, the Hull head coach said: “He’s got a torn pectoral tendon. He’ll see a specialist and go from there.

“I’m fortunate to have been involved in the game a long time and so has Jed. He’s been through a lot of injuries. The hardest thing about injuries is thinking about the recovery; he’s got experience of that, but I’m more disappointed for him in that he misses the run-in to the semi-finals.

“I thought he was finding some good form and fitness, and he helps the team when he’s out there. It’s a double-edged sword, disappointed as his dad but as far as the team is concerned, we’re going to miss him.”

Hull will also be without Sam Eseh for Saturday’s game against Leeds Rhinos. The on-loan prop has a hamstring injury. However, the club will hope to get him back in training and available for the following week against Hull KR.

“He won’t play this week,” Cartwright explained. “You just can’t tell with hamstrings. He’s going through the protocols and hopefully, we’ll have him for the Hull KR game. It’s in the shorter term and not the longer term but we’ll get him back at training next week and see how he is.”

Elsewhere, Liam Watts has passed his return to play checks after a failed HIA and is set to take his place in the side. “He should be available,” Cartwright confirmed. “He’s trained this week. He’s all good.”

And on Knight, who has now had surgery to correct his ankle, Cartwright added: “He’s had surgery now. He’s out for the season but he’ll be alright to start pre-season.”
