A former Dundalk goalkeeper slapped with a 10-game ban is training with an English Championship club in pre-season.
Sheffield Wednesday are running the rule over George Shelvey and he came off the bench in Saturday’s 4-0 friendly defeat to Red Bull Salzburg.
Shelvey joined Dundalk from Nottingham Forest in February and made nine appearances before leaving under a cloud in May.
The Englishman was slapped with a mammoth 10-game ban by the FAI for breaching FAI regulations on racism / discrimination.
He had been sent off after the final whistle in a 2-1 Louth derby defeat away to Drogheda United.
Dundalk lost to an injury-time goal and Shelvey made a comment to referee Rob Harvey and was hauled before the Independent Disciplinary Control Unit.
According to Dundalk at the time, Shelvey did not realise the words he used were discriminatory but the Lilywhites did not appeal the suspension.
By the end of May, Dundalk and Shelvey agreed to terminate his contract.
