Fulham manager Marco Silva expressed his desire of managing a club in UEFA European competition, during a lengthy chat with Thursday’s edition of A Bola.
Fulham are currently eighth in the Premier League table, three points behind fifth placed Manchester City and two behind sixth and seventh placed Newcastle United and Brighton & Hove Albion.
Silva started his coaching career at GD Estoril Praia in June 2011, right after ending his playing career with them.
The 47-year-old then went on to manage Sporting and Olympiacos before taking the Hull City job in January 2017. Prior to joining Fulham in 2021, he had spells at Watford and Everton.
Since arriving in the UK, Silva has never managed in a UEFA competition, something he experienced with Estoril, Sporting and Olympiacos. He experienced Europa League with these three clubs and the Champions League with the Lions and the Greek side.
When the newspaper asked what he misses the most, the former Everton boss mentioned European competitions. Silva also said he’s been approached by clubs active in Europe.
“I feel like I’ll get it soon, but I want to get back to playing European competitions,” he said.
“I don’t have anything to do with my career option, because I’ve already received several invitations from clubs that play in UEFA, but the truth is that, in my third season as a coach in Estoril, we are in the Europa League, and now, at Sporting, at Olympiacos, I play in the Champions League.
“I confess this is something that is missing, because it is something that a coach needs.”
