Frank Lampard can’t wait to experience for the first time the noise and support from Coventry City’s travelling fans who will be out in force at Millwall this weekend – having sold out the club’s full allocation of 3,024 tickets.
The new head coach was very impressed with the club’s home support during his first game in charge at the CBS Arena last time out when the players twice battled back to earn a 2-2 draw against Cardiff City.
But asked about the prospect of feeling the full force of the Sky Blue Army – who are well known for their outstanding, often sell-out away presence – the 46-year-old revealed that he noticed them last season while watching the team on TV.
“Yeah, I’ve heard that and I have seen it from a distance,” he said. “The one that sticks in my mind is the Wolves away game last year in the FA Cup. I watched that from afar and the celebrations of the fans, they were really good.”
He added: “They were good for me and the team last week, and I appreciated that. I understand the previous manager was a huge thing for them here and what he had been through with the club. I appreciated how they were with me but, more importantly, how they were with the players, and I am looking forward to seeing the away fans because I understand what they are all about.”
