It appears that Frank Lampard has failed in his attempt to “persuade” former Arsenal centre-back Rob Holding to drop down to the Championship and help bolster his Coventry City defence.
The 29-year-old defender is out of favour at Crystal Palace, whom he joined for £4million in the summer of 2023 but has barely played, initially due to injury but more recently after a fallout with his Austrian coach Oliver Glasner who, it is claimed, will allow he player to leave on loan this month.
The Sun reported last week that Lampard hoped to convince Holding to join the Sky Blues but the title’s transfer specialist, Alan Nixon, now says that the player is “keen on an MLS move after being frozen out at Crystal Palace.”
He adds: “The Eagles will allow the defender to leave and were ready to let him join Frank Lampard’s Coventry on loan. Holding, 29, fancies trying his luck in the USA, though, and is waiting on an offer.”
Coventry’s defence is an area of concern after conceding 37 league goals so far his season, while the team also lacks experience, which Holding would have brought to the side – a quality the team have not had at centre-half since Kyle McFadzean left for Blackburn Rovers last January.
