Frank Lampard gives his take on come-back win at Sheffield United

Frank Lampard hailed his Coventry City side’s resilience and quality goals after coming from behind to beat Sheffield United 2-1 at Bramall Lane.

Goals from Haji Wright and Jack Rudoni in the space of five second half minutes cancelled out Harrison Burrows’ opener early after the break to extend the Sky Blues’ lead at the top of the Championship to five points ahead of second placed Middlesbrough.

“To go 1-0 down and then show the resilience and quality of the goals in a game when they were under pressure at times, and to show that face of themselves was great tonight,” said the head coach.

“And you have to do it to try and get away wins against teams that are on the rise and have got good players and a difficult stadium. So I’m very pleased.”

City weathered a great deal of pressure at times but got to half-time at 0-0 in a game full of character and bodies on the line defending. Asked what was the message at the break, Lampard revealed: “To keep going. We made a bit of a tweak in midfield because I felt we weren’t comfortable with our usual build in the first half.

“Some of that was probably Sheffield United pressure and some of that was on us, so we, as staff, and my job is to try and change that and I think we got better in the second half with Frank and Grimes’ positions.

“And we managed to make some passes to get played through; the first goal is a good example a bit where Rushy’s played through to Frank and he plays to Rudi, and then we’re going at them. And those things we were not doing in the first half.

“So the first half where we were slightly off it, it was like let’s be better on the ball and let’s continue to defend well in the box. And obviously the good thing about it is that all those words become a little bit nothing when you go one nil down, because that just throws everything up in the air slightly.
