A former Sheffield Wednesday midfielder is still without a club following the summer transfer window.
Sheffield Wednesda’s transfer dealings were done incredibly early this summer, giving German boss Danny Rohl the most time during pre-season to get his new arrivals to gel.
The Owls brought in 11 players in total, six of which joined up with the Owls in a free transfer.
It is clear that Sheffield Wednesday’s budget does not quite stretch to bring in multi-million pound players, and free agents are what is often considered as the next best alternative, alongside loan deals for Premier League talents, as they did with the return of James Beadle from Brighton.
Whilst scouring the list of free agents, Sheffield Wednesday’s recruitment team may have come across one former Owl that cost £5million at the start of the 2016/17 season, and the wide-man is still yet to find a club this season.
Former Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Adam Reach still without a club
Ex-Sheffield Wednesday man Adam Reach joined the Owls following the 2015/16 Championship play-off loss to Hull City, with Carlos Carvalhal was looking to one-up his achievements in the 2016/17 season with proven Championship ability.
Reach was a star at Middlesbrough before he made a move to S6 at the start of the 2016/17 campaign, but eight years later he is currently a free agent.
The 31-year-old former Wednesday man was released from fellow Championship side West Brom, where he tallied 17 league appearances in his final year.
Would Adam Reach be a decent option for Sheffield Wednesday now
Reach remained a prevalent figure at Hillsborough during his five seasons at the club, and was certainly a key player prior to the relegation to League One.
There is no doubt that Rohl would look to bring in the former Sheffield Wednesday wide-man with a guaranteed starting place in the lineup, however Reach could potentially be a valuable player to have in-and-around the squad at Hillsborough.
As a free agent, there is very little risk involved with a deal to bring Reach to the club, and at the age-of-31, there is still a likelihood that he could still perform to a decent level, especially after making a significant impact at a side that finished in the play-offs last season.
His Championship experience should certainly not be played down, and even though he would by no means be as dangerous as he was in his first stint at Hillsborough, he could still make a decent impact for Sheffield Wednesday this season.
