FC Nürnberg are eyeing a ‘million-Euro bonus’ this summer as Caspar Jander continues to impress at Southampton.
That’s according to BILD. The German newspaper reports today on the 22‑year‑old and how Nürnberg could make an additional profit on their €12m sale last summer.
Jander joined Southampton in a €12m deal in the summer. That was already a major profit for the German club, who had signed him on a free transfer in 2024.
He’d been bouncing around Germany before that, playing for Dortmund Youth, Schalke Youth and at MSV Duisburg.
Impressing at Southampton
The central midfielder appears to have found his feet at Southampton, though. He has made 31 appearances in all competitions to date and has impressed statistically
His pass completion is almost 90% and his successive in defensive duels is 98%. Those ‘statistics’ have caught the attention of potential suitors.
According to BILD’s information, RB Leipzig and VfB Stuttgart are ‘particularly interested’ in him. Both would be happy to take him back to Germany this summer.
Ajax have also expressed an interest before now. The various interested parties are reportedly discussing a €20–25m move.
Unhappy at Southampton
Those suitors have been encouraged by Jander. He is also described as unhappy with the Saints. Firstly, because promotion to the Premier League is virtually impossible.
Secondly, he is also unhappy with his personal life. He lives in England without his girlfriend, boxer Carlotta Schünemann. That is likely to increase his desire to leave and make a move elsewhere.
A move of that magnitude would be very worthwhile for Nürnberg. The German side secured a sell-on clause of 10% from Southampton when they sold him last summer.
That means they could be in line for a ‘million-Euro bonus’ if a move happens. The feeling at the club is certainly that they’re very likely to receive another payment for Jander this summer.
