Derby County’s £1.2m Bid For 22-Year-Old Midfielder Rejected

Derby County have started to build a very strong midfield this summer.

After the early signing of Andreas Weimann, who has joined the Rams for the second time, David Ozoh has returned to the club on loan to help bolster the holding role in the middle of the park.

Rhian Brewster is of interest to John Eustace, with Joe Ward potentially a ready-made option for the wing at Pride Park with the club lacking depth on the flanks.

Nevertheless, Derby are pressing on with their desire to bring in more midfielders, and they have now had a bid rejected for a player who is pushing to leave Sunderland this summer.

Derby County fail with £1.2m bid for Sunderland’s Nectarios Triantis

Nectarios Triantis spent last season on loan at Hibernian in Scotland as the Black Cats won promotion to the Premier League thanks to Tommy Watson’s 95th minute winner in the Championship play-off final.

However, according to the Daily Record, Derby have submitted a £1.2m bid for the midfielder which has been rejected by the Wearsiders.

The Rams are not the only Championship side to show an interest in the 22-year-old this summer, as Australia and Greece await a decision on which nation he will play his football for going forward.

Hibs have also been keen to bring Triantis back to Easter Road, but they have been told that this is not going to happen this summer.

Hibernian manager David Gray is a huge fan of Nectarios Triantis

The Sydney-born ace scored three goals and registered six assists in 36 appearances in all competitions for the Scottish club last season, despite playing in a defensive midfield role.

His manager, David Gray, was extremely pleased with his performances and spoke about just how much he wanted to see him back in green-and-white for 2025/26. He said (via: Hibs Observer): “He’ll be enjoying his summer holidays probably because last season he’s done really well.

“Sunderland have obviously been promoted so they won’t be back yet. I think he had a fantastic season for us. He was excellent. You’ve seen the improvement on him all season. He was brilliant to work with.

“He’s someone that, would you like to bring him back? I think everybody would like to see him back, but that’s a conversation that will be between the two clubs – and obviously what Nectar decides to do next. But he was fantastic for us and there are conversations going on. We’ll wait and see where that one goes.”
