Darryl Strawberry announced on Instagram that he is recovering after suffering a heart attack.
“Praising God for His amazing grace and loving mercy in saving my life this evening from a heart attack,” Strawberry said on his post. “I am so happy and honored to report that all is well.”
The 62-year-old Strawberry wrote that he received treatment at St. Joseph West in Lake St. Louis in Missouri, where the medical staff used a stent procedure to bring his heart to total restoration.
Strawberry spent 17 years in the big leagues after he was selected first overall in the 1980 MLB Draft by the Mets. Strawberry — who spent the majority of his career with the Mets and Yankees — hit 335 home runs while winning Rookie of the Year in 1983, was an eight-time All-Star and won three World Series titles with the New York teams.
